Robs Anniversary Ramble: Bosworth Easy to Moderate with Steam Train
Overview
Rob has been leading rambles for 10 years so he is leading a few of his original rambles.
Here is a unique ramble with Rob Smith with a slightly revised route.
We catch the steam train on The Battlefield Line Heritage Railway and walk back. The walk is around 7½ miles is fairly flat with a couple of gentle gradients.
This moderate ramble is at the request of many regulars; the pace will be the same but we will be going a little further. We start at Shackerstone and catch the train to Shenton. From there we use the Leicestershire Round over the battlefield site and on to Sutton Cheney (the church here is where Richard III reputedly had his last mass before the battle). Then we go Market Bosworth Country Park (a landscaped 35-hectare park which was formerly part of Bosworth Hall deer parkland. We will pause in Market Bosworth for a drink in Market Bosworth square where there are pubs shops and tea shops. Leaving Market Bosworth on the Leicester Round we continue through the villages of Carlton and Barton in the Beans before we return to Shackerstone.
Here we will be able to have a cream tea or visit a local pub for a Sunday lunch, a short drive away.
Note: The railway can occasionally substitute the steam engine for a diesel engine due to weather conditions
