Dovedale House August Bank Holiday Hostel + Camping Weekend, Derbyshire
Overview
You really are in for a treat this weekend as Dovedale house it set in beautiful grounds on the outskirts of the fabulous, picture perfect village of Ilam.
If the weather is nice we can spend time in the lovely lawned gardens with the beautiful backdrop of the Peak District and we are just a short walk from the River Manifold where you could take a picnic. As well as the walking and us being in the beautiful Ilam village there is an onsite games room where we can challenge each other to a game of air hockey, Table Tennis or Pool. In the main though, the best aspect of these weekends is the fabulous fresh air and socialising with Spice friends old and new. There is ample room onsite and we have the option of camping in the lovely grounds for those who prefer to spend their night's under canvas with access to the facilities within the main house.
There is a great fire pit and seating area in the grounds of the House which is likely to be the focal point of at least one of our evenings there.
These weekends are great value for money with great company and good food and plenty of it. Included in the weekend is 3 nights upmarket hostel accommodation or camping, 1 cooked breakfast, a breakfast with hot items and a 1 continental breakfasts, 3 evening meals, 2 packed lunches, 2 guided walks and the services of a Spice host.

- Guests: Guests & Non Members who are new to Spice are welcome to book at a £36 supplement though they may prefer to join to obtain the member rate and any deals that may be available at the time of booking/joining. Please call your local office/group to enquire about booking as a guest.
- Travel Insurance: It is also recommended that when travelling on holiday or attending Spice weekends away in the UK or overseas that you have adequate travel insurance in case of emergency, cancellation, etc. Travel insurance is an important aspect to booking a weekend or holiday, giving you protection against unforeseen circumstances. We also strongly recommend a personal travel insurance policy that includes COVID-19 cover. While we cannot recommend specific insurance policies as everyone’s requirements are personal to them, Spice have linked up with market leader Staysure Travel Insurance which you may like to take a look at.
Location & Itinerary
Plenty of good quality food is provided on these weekends away. As always with these hostel style weekends, everyone is expected to muck in to help make the weekend go smoothly from helping with the cooking, washing up and making sure that the venue is left spick and span upon our departure.
These are wonderfully sociable weekends and everyone is always impressed with what you get included - they are a great way to meet members from lots of different Spice groups. Don't worry if you don't know anyone booked on the weekend; these are so sociable you very soon will do.
Travel & Stay
Dovedale House is a former Victorian vicarage located in Ilam in a stunning location in the Peak Disctrict, ideally located for exploring the National Park.
Within this wonderful, well kept house there is room for up to 50 guests across 12 bedrooms and camping. The bedrooms vary in size over the 1st and 2nd floor of this enchanting building with a mixture of bunks and single beds with shower and toilet facilities throughout the house. Rooms will be allocated on a first come first served basis with the smaller rooms being allocated to the early bookers. Bedding is included for those staying in the house. This is a repeat visit to this wonderful venue and it definitely gets a thumbs up from us!
From Ashbourne take the A52 towards Leek. After approx. 4.3 miles, at the top of the hill, turn right at the crossroads signposted to Ilam.
Entering the Peak National Park follow the Ilam Moor Road for 1.5 miles before turning left at the crossroads signposted Ilam, Dovedale and Wetton.
After 1 mile you will enter the village of Ilam. Pass the Memorial Cross and as the road bends slightly to the right, take a left turn towards Ilam Hall.
As the drive splits in two take the left hand fork signposted Dovedale House & The Bungalow.
