Mid-Week Walk: Haslingden
Overview
A walk of two halves at the lower end of the grade. We explore both sides of the valley containing the three reservoirs of Haslingden Grane, and are thus afforded views of this valley from two aspects. Haslingden (‘Valley of the Hazels’) is a place steeped in industrial heritage, and produced the famous Haslingden Flags which went to pave London, including Trafalgar Square. This is a walk of quarry tracks, moorland, reservoirs and the darting flight of snipe if we are lucky. Please bring your walking boots and some sandwiches for a picnic lunch along the way.
Note that there is a café at the car park so you can enjoy a relaxed drink of coffee at the start if you wish.
Facilities: Public toilets at the start of the walk. Café too!

UPDATE: Important travel information for today's walk: the B6232 between the A56 and the meeting place for today’s walk has been closed, which is on Richard's suggested route to get to the walk. Richard recommends people approach from the Darwen/Blackburn side rather than the Haslingden side. Google Maps knows about the closure so can be used for the best alternative.
From Mcr get onto M66 and at the end of the motorway bear left onto its continuation the A56, signposted Blackburn and Burnley. Take the second turn (about 1.3 miles from the end of the M66) signposted B6232 Haslingden and when you get to the T junction at the bottom of the sliproad turn left signposted Darwen B6232. After 2 miles turn right into Clough Head Car Park where we meet, signposted Clough Head Café & Information Centre. Postcode BB4 4AU is the closest for SatNav and gets you to within half a mile of the car park, although it’s not exact. You can however type ‘Clough Head Cafe And Tourist Information and The Cabin bird hide’ into google maps and it will take you there or for a more precise location for the car park you can use What3Words https://w3w.co/volcano.grounding.entertainer
