Overview

Situated in the UK’s most popular spa town of Harrogate this weekend is sure to raise admiring eyebrows and we hope this is going to prove a favourite area for many years to come. This new centre combines the historic and well appointed 4 star Best Western Cedar Court Hotel with some of the best walking the this attractive area has to offer. We will gain a valuable insight into this remarkable area by contrasting the walks using a charming variety of natural and man-made habitats. We will intersperse picturesque villages with pretty parkland and open moorland, reservoirs and valleys, panoramic open vista and narrow cobbled streets to produce a pure Dales tapestry.

Location & Itinerary

This resplendent walking area is one not to be missed for it is adorned with great walks with great variety. The are so many areas and we will choose from the following mouth watering selection.  There is the magnificent moorland area north of Ilkley and immediately south of Blubberhouses. Here both walks encompass the fine reservoirs of Fewton and Swinsty mixed in with the compact plantations of Beecroft and Swinsty before opening out to the broader Askwith and Blubberhouses Moors. Also there is the wonderful area of Pateley Bridge, a beautiful Dales village nestled along side the glorious winding River Nidd with its old stone bridges and tight, deep valleys near the outskirts of open moorland edges. These in turn whisk us away to the distinctive Brimham rocks from which seem to spring large natural stone sculptures including a Bear. There is also the picturesque village of Ripley with its magnificent 700 hundred year old castle, then there’s Knaresborough with riverside paths along the ‘shining’ river Nidd, St Robert’s Cave and Mother Shipton and all! We will decide on the actual programme closer to the time. To allow you to choose a walk that suits you best, WalkWise UK will provide a minimum of two walks on each day, led by professional and knowledgeable walking guides. On all 3 days there will be a harder walk of 10-12 miles with up to 2000+ft of ascent, and a gentler walk of 8-9 miles with less ascent. However, the programme is flexible and can be altered to suit your needs.

All walks are weather dependent and own transport may be taken to the walk starts.

Is this for me?

Travel Insurance: It is also recommended that when travelling on holiday or attending Spice weekends away in the UK or overseas that you have adequate travel insurance in case of emergency, cancellation, etc. Travel insurance is an important aspect to booking a weekend or holiday, giving you protection against unforeseen circumstances. We also strongly recommend a personal travel insurance policy that includes COVID-19 cover. While we cannot recommend specific insurance policies as everyone’s requirements are personal to them, Spice have linked up with market leader Staysure Travel Insurance which you may like to take a look at.
