Overview

Join Rob smith on this great 6½ mile ramble starting from the grounds on the National Memorial Arboretum.

The ramble initially explores some of the 50 acre site and its monuments before heading towards the lovely village of Alrewas. Here we join the Trent and Mersey canal on its scenic journey through the village. There will be a half way stop in Alrewas.

At Alrewas lock the canal becomes the River Trent and there a large weir which is a popular spot for fishing. We continue along the river to Wychnor lock where the canal restarts and we follow the A38 a short distance to Catholme. He we return to the peace of the local wetlands created by old gravel workings, following the railway viaduct we return to the grounds of the Arboretum.

The plan is to have lunch or just a snack back at the arboretum as they have a great café and restaurant.

Afterwards, you can take a closer look at their stunning site.
