A Night in the Trenches
Overview
This evening we will experience a taste of the life that the soldiers endured in the trenches. This is made possible by an authentic re-creation of the trenches at The Staffordshire Regimental Museum near Lichfield. Our event starts, with our group entering the candlelit trenches for a guided tour, during which we will meet soldiers of various nationalities, at work and at rest. Following the tour, we will move to the viewing areas and witness ‘the battle’, which will include troops going ‘over the top’, in attack and counter-attack. Please be aware…this part of the event includes simulated explosions and loud gunfire.
There will also be time to explore the museum, which details the bravery, tenacity and heroism of the men who have fought with the Staffordshire Regiments over the last 300 years. The Museum vividly tells the story of the two famous old County Regiments, the North and the South Stafford’s, and their successor the Staffordshire Regiment.
The Coltman Trench is a replica of a 100 metres section of WW I British and German trenches. It is over 2 meters deep with sides shored up with sandbags and on this evening will be brought to life by a dedicated team of actors.
Please note: The floor of the trench is concrete so you won't be tramping through mud but it is outdoors and open to the elements, which means it can be chilly so sensible footwear and a warm, waterproof coat is a good idea.
Although this is a public event we currently have a trench tour reserved just for Spice and then will join members of the public to witness the battle.
PLEASE NOTE WE ONLY HAVE 15 TICKETS AND CAN ONLY HOLD THEM UNTIL 1st November SO PLEASE BOOK EARLY...
Host & Everything Else
I wanted to say that despite the most awful weather conditions of which are completely out of your control the event was wonderful , excellently managed and the Staff and Spice team were indeed very friendly and professional. We stayed as long as we could, perhaps it was quite poignant the weather been so awful as its truly give s one the sense of just the appalling conditions so many endured during this awful period in our history ..Once again many thanks for a great experience.
The weather was really bad, but in a way it actually added to the experience. It was an excellent event which I would recommend.
• A great night out from start to finish!
• A one-off experience - really enjoyed the whole night. Obviously the reconstruction is nothing like as horric as the real WW1 trenches were, but the explanations of what life in the trenches was really like was really thought-provoking and made glad NOT to have been alive at the time! Thanks to all concerned for a great night.
• An enjoyable, educational and unique experience, not to be missed!
• I thought the event was excellent, the volunteers who were renacting the battle explained so well what was happening and why, trench layout, etc.
