Overview
Join us as we return to the fabulous dales village to coincide with the local Grassington 1940s Weekend. Grassington Bunk Barn at almost 1000 feet altitude, with spectacular panoramic views of Wharfedale, is a magnificent spot, ideally situated for exploring Grassington and the Yorkshire Dales. It is rather plush too having been converted to a bunk barn in 2014 with a lot of thought put in to make our stay lovely.
Although primarily a social weekend (expect some partying!) there is also the opportunity to do those nice little tea shop visits and relax amongst local Yorkshire Dales.
If you’ve never been on a Spice weekend before give it a go - you might need a week to recover but everyone agrees it’s worth it. If you have been before you’ll know how popular they are!
Included in the weekend are one cooked breakfast, one continental breakfast but with hot butties (help with cooking breakfasts and the cleaning up is as always very much welcomed) and a lovely buffet including some 1940s recipes at the barn on the Saturday night; don't worry though, there'll be plenty of food and ration books are not required.
Bottom sheets and pillows are provided, but you will need to bring either a sleeping bag or a duvet, or you can hire one for £6.
Whether you’re a brand new member, an ‘old hat’ or one of the many that have been with us for a little while, and you like having fun with other like-minded Spice members then this really is a great weekend to book. It’s also a great starter weekend if you’ve not been away with us before - very laid back - you can do as much or as little as you choose; it’s your weekend away. But, be warned – our weekend breaks often fill up really quickly so get your booking in now to avoid being disappointed.
Includes
two nights' hostel accommodation, one full cooked breakfast, one continental breakfast and Saturday evening buffet
Extras
Optional Friday night meal at The Foresters.
Duvets are available to hire for £8, or bring your own. You can also hire a towel for £2.
Location & Itinerary
Iron Age settlements and well-preserved lead mine workings are visible from the barn and fascinating to explore. Down the hill, the Yorkshire Dales village of Grassington with its cobbled square and numerous pubs, cafes and an award-winning restaurant provides a wealth of choice for us to explore. Grassington also boasts outdoor clothing shops, a prize-winning butcher, delicatessen, mini-supermarket, a bookshop, post office, several galleries and gift shops so you’ll find everything you need within walking distance though be prepared for a tough walk back up the hill to the barn.
We have timed this weekend to coincide with the Grassington 1940s Weekend. Please note that the 1940s weekend is not organised by Spice and although we expect it to go ahead, Spice are not responsible for the activities or schedule. When we know more about the planned itinerary we will post an update here.
Included is a cooked breakfast on Saturday morning, a buffet dinner on Saturday evening and a continental breakfast on Sunday morning. There's an optional meal at The Foresters on the Friday.
Travel & Stay
The accommodation of the barn is on two levels and can sleep up to 34 in four bedrooms split into 6-12-12-4. Rooms are generally allocated on a first come first served basis however we are unable to commit to you getting the room of your choice as it very much depends upon the male/female split on the weekend.
On the upper floor, a large dining area features an open plan kitchen equipped with all that is needed for our group in a layout that encourages communal activity. There is also a lounge area with Freeview TV, though we are likely to be content with the dramatic views of Wharfedale from the window and of course fantastic company! For those needing to keep in touch with the outside world there is mobile phone coverage on most networks and also free wi-fi.
On the ground floor there are three bathrooms with five showers and five toilets along with a large drying / boot room.
The barn is heated by an environmentally sustainable wood pellet biomass boiler which fuels radiators in all the rooms and constant hot water which is all inclusive in the price.
Outside there is a locked bike storage facility and a large car parking area adjacent to the barn.
