Overview

Another in our series of lovely walks through urban and green spaces of the West Midlands using the Greenways Map. This walk is also based on an approved route from Country Walking Magazine.

Many of you have previously enjoyed walking to Sarehole Mill from Brindley Place. Today's walk is a little shorter at a gentle 5 miles and links the many lovely green spaces in the vicinity of Sarehole Mill that were childhood haunts of JRR Tolkein and inspired works like The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.

From Sarehole Mill we follow the River Cole south to Billesley where we turn west along Chinn Brook towards Cocks Moors Woods. We then follow the green spaces of Billesley Common and Swanshurst Park to discover Moseley New Pool and the famous Moseley Bog. We rejoin the River Cole at the Wier above Sarehole from which point it is a short scenic walk back with the tower of Sarehole Mill to guide us home.

Dare I say that it's a walk that could be hobbit forming!

Cafe: There is a nice cafe at the mill to finish, before saying goodbye.

Sarehole Mill is best known for its connections with JRR Tolkien. It is due to be open and the cafe will be available to us with covered outdoor seating, There should also be the opportunity to see inside the mill for a modest entry charge if you wish.

It is lovely to find such an idyllic spot with a 250 year old working watermill and picturesque mill pond so close to the City.

This event is organised and supplied by Richard Coulter – Hidden Spaces, whose terms and conditions apply, obtainable on request and for whom Spice act as agent. Those booking enter into a contract directly with Richard Coulter. For availability and bookings contact Spice.
