Peak District Walk: Tissington, Parwich, Bradbourne & Kniveton
Overview
Walks and Rambles Update: You will no doubt have heard that we are now allowed to meet in groups of up to 6 unrelated people in outdoor situations. With this in mind, we are going to re-start our ramble and walks programme. This will mean that we can only have 5 on each walk (the 6th will be the walk leader) but it’s a start. If all goes well, we should be able to increase numbers when it is deemed safe to do so.
Is it safe? If we follow government guidelines by maintaining social distancing and keeping numbers within recommended limits the risks are low. We will carefully choose the walks in terms of routes and start locations. We want to avoid places which are already busy, such as country parks for obvious reasons. We will be discussing the ‘rules’ with each walk leader to make sure that they are our members are kept safe and avoid risks as much as possible.
Food: At present, we can’t go to the pub afterwards for a drink or lunch, so the plan will be to choose walks that lend themselves to picnics, either part way round the walk or at the end.
Important: As numbers are limited please let us know if you can no longer make the ramble as it would be a shame if we couldn’t offer to someone else.
Today we explore some very pretty villages in the vicinity of historic Tissington.
We leave Tissington on the Limestone Way, crossing over the Tissington Trail, and heading for Parwich. From Parwich we head East to Ballidon, before climbing to the ancient village of Bradbourne with its Norman Church and Elizabethan Hall.
From Bradbourne we descend to cross Havenhill Brook, before climbing again, this time to the Bronze Age Burial Ground of Wigber Low, and the pretty Greystone village of Kniveton. From here, it’s downhill to cross the Bentley Brook at Woodeaves Mill, and a final ascent brings us back to Tissington
Distance: 10 Miles
Leaders: Paul and Marie Moss
Location & Itinerary
Our Sunday walks are always popular and we go out all weathers and all through the year. All walks in the Peak District need to be classified as moderate due to the terrain. Easier Moderate Walks are generally half day only around 6-8 miles.
Full day or Harder Moderate walks are normally not more than 10-12 miles although sometimes slightly more in summer months.
If you've not done much hill walking recently regardless of your general fitness level, we'd recommend starting off on one of these shorter half day walks, typically of around 6 miles before tackling our slightly more serious full day walks.
The meet time is generally 10:15am for a start at 10:30am but some differ so please check the individual walks
