Sunday Walk: Chadkirk and Marple via the Viaduct
Overview
A walk with outstanding views of the beautiful Cheshire hills. We will start this dog-friendly walk (no stiles) with a bit of a descent and take the opportunity to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the setting of Chadkirk Chapel. Our epic journey then takes us through the surrounding picturesque woodland (with an ascent/steps) and along the inspiring Peak Forest Canal. We continue our journey along Benjamin Outram's splendid stone Marple Aqueduct together with its slightly higher railway viaduct neighbour running parallel. Since 2015, this part of the Peak Forest Canal has been a Green Flag Award winner, the Marple Aqueduct itself winning a Heritage Green Award in 2017. Following the opportunity to have a break for lunch, we will continue along the canal and have the opportunity to see the spectacular flight of the 16 locks before returning to our starting point.
